Schools Program

The CQ NRL BIDs schools program is a whole-hearted participation based program, targeting both boys and girls of all school ages using a number of the NRL’s many innovative age-specific programs. We work in conjunction with the CQ Capras, Education QLD and the NRL development officers to deliver this program throughout the school year.

Working in conjunction with these organisations lets us use our extensive footprint to our advantage and reach areas from Mackay to Bundaberg and as far west as Isisford, Winton and Longreach. This gives the CQ NRL Bid and its sponsorship partner’s great exposure to a vast area of Queensland and helps children develop life skills far beyond rugby league. The schools program is very much in demand and will continue growing from strength to strength as the momentum for the CQ NRL team builds.

Satellite Program

This year the CQ NRL BID will continue to develop the Junior Development Program. A ground breaking, highly innovative program that has been applauded by the NRL administration and NRL teams alike, the CQ NRL Bid Development Program will continue to provide wonderful opportunities for aspiring young rugby league players.

Having such a geographical challenge with getting our elite players all in the same place at the same time, the CQ NRL Bid will now take the program to the next level. Specifically developed development sessions will be delivered to all 5 areas across Central Queensland. This means the young players get all of the benefits that come with being in an elite programme without the travel impost.

Junior Elite Tour

The CQ NRL Bid Junior Development Program is a highly innovative development program that focuses on the holistic development of elite young CQ rugby league players. Selected 13, 14 & 15 year old players gather together for a series of camps which encompass the latest training in rugby league skills, strength & conditioning training, player welfare seminars.

This culminates into an elite tour in their final year with the squad playing a series of games against the leading sides in their age group within Australia. The CQ NRL Bid Junior Development Program has been lauded by the NRL and NRL teams as a highly innovative program that promotes the holistic development of young players in CQ. Former Welsh International, Ian Webster heads a strong coaching team who are committed to improving the young men involved as people and as well as rugby league players.

Scholarship Program

The CQ NRL Bid Scholarship Program is a program for disadvantaged high school students. It will assist them in receiving educational and sporting opportunities they would not otherwise be afforded. Young men from all over the CQ NRL Bid region are awarded with scholarships to assist them in their development both on and off the field. The Program includes three key focuses:

  1. Financial Assistance – Up to $5,000 per year to assist with the scholarship holder’s educational and sporting costs.

  2. Player Welfare – Scholarship Holder’s receive player welfare training to ensure they maintain a grounded and balanced approach to their life. CQ NRL Bid Development manager Ian Webster provides round-the-clock assistance to the young men. The program incorporates an NRL-approved Code of Conduct (available upon request).

  3. Mentoring – Each Scholarship Holder is partnered with a strong identity to help mentor them through. These strong identities have been through similar experiences and provide invaluable advice to the young men with a strong focus on developing as a person. Mentors include amongst others former greats like Gary Larson, Justin Loomans, Steven Bell and PJ Marsh.
