In the Wake of the record breaking, ALL QLD, NRL Grand final between the Cowboys and the Broncos, the CQ NRL BID is making waves of its own kind. This weekend we will witness the CQ NRL Bid u15s development team step up in class, as they jet off to Sydney to compete against the NRLs Elite junior players.

The U15s team led by Development manager Ian Webster will play twice over the weekend testing their skills against the NRLs hottest young rising stars in the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels junior development teams.

“This is a great test for the players selected to represent our region, and prove on a bigger stage that Central Queensland has got the capacity to not only field a largely local NRL team but be competitive at the same time.”

Development manager Ian Webster

The NRL is currently littered with CQ talent that have all come through the region but had no end product to ply their trade, therefor having to leave home to follow a dream. The CQ NRL Bid is trying to correct this by providing these once in a lifetime opportunities to CQ kids and bring our very own NRL team to Central Queensland.

The concept of the junior development teams started back in 2011, when the CQ NRL Bid teams opposed the best high schools in Qld. Since then it has evolved into playing and convincingly beating state representative opposition, Brisbane Broncos affiliate opposition, and now elite NRL opposition.

Central Queensland is very well represented throughout this group of elite young men, from Longreach, Mackay, Moranbah, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Springsure and Emerald.

“The tour will again give these boys an insight to what it takes to become an NRL player. Including welfare seminars, video review, rehabilitation, nutrition and many more aspects of the life of an NRL star.”

Darren Ferricks coach

The progress of the weekend can be followed by updates on Facebook and the website of the CQ NRL Bid.
