In the world of professional sport, the most important ingredient to success is perception. The way the public view your organisation, corporate partners, the opposition and most importantly the people within the organisation are key ingredients to any successful business.

The CQ Capras have been taking sizeable steps towards generating a positive perception in the Central Queensland region. On and off the field lead by the hard working and well respected coach Kim Williams.

“The pre-season on the training paddock has been brutal but enjoyable,” said one senior player.

“We are trying to create an environment of intensity that replicates a game, then when game time comes everybody is ready to take the challenge without any shocks to the body and mind.”

Off the field equally as important, the CQ Capras are making a concerted effort to really put some time back into the community and schools. With the help of the NRL development Programs and the CQ NRL Bid development team, the CQ Capras are getting regular visits in schools throughout Central Queensland and the kids and staff are responding positively.

“It is always nice to be able to take players to schools, as the kids embrace the opportunity to meet and have photos with them. They are the most elite sports people in our region as we do not have a national team at this stage, and they are reminded of this on these school visits.” Ian Webster CQ NRL Bid Development Manager

Last week saw the Capras spend two days interacting, teaching, and enjoying getting to know the children from Capricornia School of Distance Education. This was a great opportunity for children who enrol for a variety of reasons. Geographical isolation, medical, travelling or home based learners are some of the categories of enrolment.

Across the two days the children were involve in physical rugby league training, simple life skills, Healthy eating and wellbeing talk, an anti-bullying seminar and a questions and answers session with origin plyer PJ Marsh, CQ capras players Masada Ioesefa, Bill Cullen and Michael Ki.

This Friday the CQ Capras players and CQ NRL Bid team will spend the morning at Azar house as one of their several visits throughout the year. Then next Wednesday Coach Kim Williams and Ian Webster will begin a 5 week program for the children at Carinity College.
